You might be asking yourself “How does a tap truck become a tap truck?” Well we’re about to share the story of our 1949 Chevy Panel truck’s history from birth to Tap Truck Kansas.

Our truck began as a hatchery delivery truck, working several years in this business before being retired to a shed where it would sit for several years. This is where things start to get exciting!

A gentleman purchased the truck with the intention of restoring it to it’s former beauty, and the greatest part is this individual was a custom painter! The truck was put onto a subframe from a 1977 Pontiac Firebird, giving it a smoother and more comfortable ride, and it had a brand new Chevy 302 V8 motor dropped in! Then our owner did what he did best, he put his own personal touches on the truck, but made sure to preserve the history of the truck. He hand pin-striped the truck, and hand painted the name of the hatchery where the truck’s life had begun!

Now the old truck was a show-quality vehicle that turned heads wherever it went, and our owner made sure it was seen. Every year he would drive the truck with his cousin to a classic car swap meet that was over 4 hours away from home. That’s right, this isn’t just a show vehicle, it’s a driver too!

We came across this exact truck when trying to find the perfect truck for a Tap Truck, and as soon as we set eyes on this beauty, we knew we’d found the perfect match. We drove about 5 hours one way to pick it up, and had an incredible time chatting it up with the previous owner’s wife! We had such an amazing time visiting with her, and listening to her tell the same story we’re telling here.

Our 1949 Chevy loaded up and ready to be towed back to Kansas! Check out that custom hand painted logo!

History is something we take very seriously, and we knew we had a special truck in tow while we drove back home to Kansas. While we didn’t leave the previous custom paint job visible, if you look closely, you’ll see it’s still underneath our vinyl wrap. We couldn’t remove all that beautifully done custom paint work! We are so honored to know the history behind this truck, and to know the previous owner is watching over us every step of the way!
